Let's Talk
Let’s Talk is a runaway prevention curriculum created by the National Runaway Switchboard (NRS). The mission of the NRS is to help keep
America’s runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. Between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away in a year. In 2009, NRS handled over 14,000 calls in
California alone, 487 of those calls were from the 714 area code & 148 calls were taken from the 949 area code.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin began providing this curriculum in October, 2010 to 33 female incarcerated youth & 11 ACCESS school youth. The program has blossomed to serve over 100 youth through this program.
Program topics include communication & listening, adolescent development, personal influences, roles & responsibilities of families, runaway reality, national safe connections, community response & responsibility, anger management, stress reduction, drugs & alcohol, sexuality & sexual orientation, internet safety & fun, and future life planning. Through this program, youth have learned a myriad of valuable information including where they can go for safety.
